At the 2004 NSCA show in Las
Vegas, A3audio LLC introduced the MX-212, their first in a new series of
speakers nicknamed NOT
LINE ARRAY. The MX-212 is a dual 12”,
two-way, full range speaker system designed for horizontal mount in multiple
speaker arrays. Power handling is rated at 1,000 watts continuous and 2,000
watts peak. The MX-212 presents a nominal 4-Ohm load. Manufacturers suggested
retail price is $ 999.00.

Turner, said “the nickname NOT
LINE ARRAY is meant to force the
question, does your church or school installation really need a $10,000 line
array system? Line array is the latest technology to take the sound
reinforcement industry by storm and many consultants are incorrectly specifying
line array systems in their quotations. When used by professional sound
engineers, the benefits of true line array for large stadiums or outdoor venues
are significant. These same benefits are not present when used in most school
auditoriums or churches and do nothing for the client except to increase the
total cost of the installation”.
A system designed around the
MX-212 will not meet the mathematical definition of a true line array, but for
most medium sized room installations the MX-212 will provide an equal level of
sound quality and room coverage
